If you are carrying a lot of USB key drives and running out of space on them, here is a handy tip if you also own an iPhone. The iPhone has a disk too! You can use your iPhone to store documents on the go and view those documents too.

Here is a great review from Macworld of 3 apps that allow you to store documents on your iPhone. These apps are all less than $8 each – so you can’t go wrong trying all of them
.
They are:
My favorite is Files, since its a WebDAV server and accessible from Windows/Mac and other iPhones…

For the first time in the last few years, Apple did not wow me with the new ipods they announced today. A new iPod Touch, iPod Nano, iPod Classic and new in-ear headphones.. Is that all you got Apple ? C’mon Steve, show us the real stuff. Where is that rumored Apple micro laptop/tablet ?
In fact, let me go on a mini rant here..
What happened to :

Apple has released an unusual document – a security guide – for Mac OS X 10.5. This is a 220 page document in PDF format that covers everything you would need to secure a client version of Mac OS X (the one installed on imacs/macbooks/macpros etc).
Check it out here: Security Configuration Guide

I just finished installing the InvisibleShield protective cover on my iPhone and I have to say it’s one of the best things I did. This product is amazing. Zagg , the company that makes them had a booth at MacWorld and they were challenging iPhone owners to throw away their existing case in exchange for the InvisibleShield cover and go ‘naked’ !

Surprisingly there were more than 30-40 cases already collected in a bin at the booth. It didn’t take me long to be convinced after watching the demo and feeling a covered iPhone. For the demo, they threw a iPhone covered with the InvisibleShield into a box full of nails & screws and shook the box vigorously. There was no scratch on the iPhone !
So I threw my InCase iPhone case into their bin and traded it for a InvisibleShield cover. I finished installing the front cover to protect the LCD screen of the iPhone and it has been great. The plastic cover is made of urethane and is usually used by the military to cover the leading edges of helicopter blades ! Talk about being ‘cutting edge’
.
An added benefit of the cover is that it does not leave fingerprint marks or oil smudges on the LCD. Usually if you hold the iPhone to your ear the LCD gets some oil smudges from your ear/face. With the cover on, the surface remains smooth and unblemished.
I highly recommend it and well worth the $25 price. You won’t regret it.

Since every other Mac blog will cover the main products in detail, I thought I would cover those products that are quirky, cool and fun. The next few postings are about these kind of different products.
To start off, here is something that is really cool:
This is a solar charger for iPods, iPhones and other regular pda/phones/mp3 players from a company called Solio
I bought a couple of these since I can definitely use them. My wife often forgets to charge her phone and then she is stranded when she needs to use it. She can leave this charger on the dashboard of her car and use it to charge her phone when she needs it. These chargers have builtin LI batteries that get charged by the solar cells. Each full charge can power up a iPod 2 times before they need recharging. Clean green and cool!

How rare is this ? I ran into Walt Mossberg, journalist for the Wall Street Journal (and Apple fanboy) outside the Apple store in downtown SFO.
He was gracious and asked me what MacMessiah was as I was wearing a MacMessiah name tag. We had a few minutes to chat about the new Apple products and then we walked down to Moscone together.

You already know the main features of iPhone 1.1.3from the keynote, but there are a few interesting tweaks that got lost in all the other Apple coverage.• The SMS storage has been upped from 1,000 to 75,000, which means you probably won’t need to ever clear a conversation unless you really enjoy texting.
• The keyboard now allows two-finger typing, so holding shift + a key lets you type caps.
• GMail on the phone automatically defaults to IMAP, which means deleting messages on your phone affects stuff server-side.
• Various bugs hit on Bluetooth and email checks, but workarounds have been found.
Meanwhile here is a nifty way to create a photo album using web clips…
